We treat it as if having a torch lit provides perfect vision within 60 feet, which it manifestly does not. Look at some of the spelunking or abandoned mine videos on YouTube, and you'll get an idea just how sketchy it is to navigate tunnels underground. Even a ultra-bright modern LED headlamp can obscure as many things as it reveals.
