I discovered this map going through my copy of Chaosium's "Worlds of Wonder". It's not a map of my creation, it's a map my dad drew at least 35 years ago. I have no idea what he drew it for, he may have been working on some fiction or just drew it for the heck of it as I think it pre-dates our exposure to D&D.
I have no idea how it ended up in that game box but it seemed appropriate to share it.

In a much more entertaining and exciting universe discovering an old map like this crafted by your father when he was young would be a gateway to adventure...
That is super cool. :D
ReplyDeleteSimply magical!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fascinating, and very, very cool. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a cool map. With a location name like "Goro's Village," I'm guessing it was for a story he was writing.
ReplyDeleteHas a very similar feel to the maps in the original LotR volumes, I'm guessing your story assumption is right.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteI was just talking to my father over the phone, he hasn't seen the map yet but he thinks it's from a story he was writing when I was a under 2 years old (which makes it years older then D&D). How the heck I ended up with is in an RPG game box is anyone's guess.
ReplyDeleteupdate: (this was on dragonsfoot but I didn't post it here)
ReplyDeleteMy dad got a look at the map this past Thanksgiving and he identified it as the last iteration of one he'd been working on in high-school to go along with some stories he was working on in his late teens. The map would have been drawn while my parents were dating or shortly before I was born. It predates D&D by several years.
