Likely Damage Inflicted 1d6, 1d8, and 1d10


I’ve been doing some number crunching in regards to Swords & Wizardy other D&D-like combat systems while exploring some combat variation.  I generated a number of tables for likely damage inflicted on a target based on chance to hit, weapon damage, and referenced to AC to help out my number crunching and I’m sharing them here.
All the following tables use the S&W AC and hit chances and have thaco included for reference for those DMs that use combat charts but don’t use the base attack bonus method in their campaigns.
Likely damage suffered from an attack is average damage multiplied by the chance to hit.
All tables following assume a 1 always misses and a 20 always hits on a d20 to hit roll.

I didn’t go past +17 to hit as I’m going through all this for analysis of general combat rules and in my house rules and Swords & Wizardry darned few attacks are going to be happening over +13  so I figured +16 was a safe cut-off point. I likewise stopped at AC -3[22] for similar limitations in likely bounds.

Note; some of the charts are going to crash on some browser settings but  they fit using the printfriendly widget at a scale of 90%.

  1. Haven't had a chance to read through this data yet - very interested in it - but the charts are... aligned funny. They're bigger than the width of your blog. Not sure if this can be fixed with zooming in or out (on the reader's end) or with editing (on your end). It tends to happen with Blogger, for whatever reason.

    1. I haven't been able to figure out how to get blogger to behave with charts all the time yet. As I mention above it is useable and readable using the Print Friendlily widget (,ay or may not have to resize).
