Corridor Profiles

An assortment of corridor profiles for folks tired of every 10' wide corridor in their dungeon looking the same.

Selections 1 to 176 are for 10' wide corridors that are about 10' high. Selections 177 to 240 are for corridors 10' wide and about 15' high. Various dice rolling methods could be used a d240 isn't hard to fake with a d24 and a D10. 

I'd have each level use a profile consistently and roll a new one for special areas, sub-levels and new levels of a dungeon.  I've used a number of the above in my own dungeons and some of the layouts above drive some players crazy and set off paranoia-alarms even if nothing special beyond the profile is going on. A raised platform, a sunken channel, or slopped floors do tend to get noticed and present challenges in encounters you just don't get form a flat 10' wide corridor.

  1. Great! I'd like to somehow use exploding dice to generate them, so that the low numbers are the most common... but I don't know how to do that and 240 being a real possibility. Maybe a table to roll wich table to roll? Clumsy... Or I'll cull that graphic a little...

  2. Go get a 24 sided die and a ten (or a a 12, a 10 and any other die). Problem solved. I'd likely divide the result by a d6 roll to bring things closer to the lower end.

    Cutting up the graphic to use it like cards would certainly be a pretty easy way to do it.

  3. Very cool JD. Might have to figure out how to use them on the computer. Or better yet, someone smarter than me figure out how to do it and then tell me.

    1. It was easier for me to draw them as opposed to describing them verbally. }'d indicate them as a crossection note on a map. I'll get an example posted sometime tomorrow.

  4. This is one of the more interesting ideas I have seen in regards to dungeon building in awhile. I've been reading up on megadungeon design theory (we live in a golden age of information), but most of it deals with fairly macro issues. I will probably add this to my megadungeon, especially since I want to have a fair amount of water following throw it.

    1. Glad you noticed the water flow assitance implied by many of the profiles. Real world tomb and mine diggers have to worry about drainage but you seldom see it in dungeon design.
